Our sculpture, designed for Folly Art Norg, exists at the intersection of architecture and art. It is a spatial object on a human scale, intended to intrigue viewers and encourage them to perceive their surroundings differently. The folly comprises two geometric forms that embrace each other, each enclosing its own interior space. As visitors approach and navigate around the structure, their experience shifts, with openings in the white cellular concrete framing the vibrant greenery around it. We hope the folly invites walkers to explore, traverse, and play within it.
Participating in Folly Art Norg provides us the opportunity to bring one of our ideas to life in a breathtaking setting. The biggest challenge was to create a seemingly simple form that makes a bold statement in the Norg landscape while maintaining spatial complexity. We enjoyed experimenting with different scale models to achieve this balance.
We consciously chose not to work with materials that could compromise our values, and we are grateful to Xella, the cellular concrete manufacturer, for sponsoring the building blocks used in our folly. Additionally, we appreciate the support from Michiel van Steenbergen of Studio Steenberg and Lex Goossens for their assistance during the construction week.
